The Academy believes that evaluation of clinical competency and/or restriction of privileges based solely on numbers of patients treated for a particular condition is arbitrary and inappropriate. Similarly, assignment of privileges shall not be made solely on the basis of the number and types of physicians who already exercise those privileges in the hospital. (1984) (2007)
