Private Sector Advocacy
Representing family physicians' interests to health insurance companies, medical specialty societies, and employers.
Our calling? Protecting your interests.
Count on us to:
- Challenge cumbersome administrative practices by health plans.
- Press for fairer payments to family physicians.
- Promote health plan adherence to CPT coding standards and conventions.
Spotlight
- Did you know that Aetna changed its policy for concurrent/same-day E/M services? Effective August 15, 2009, Aetna will pay the preventive service and acute service at 100% and 50% of the allowed amount, respectively. AAFP voiced its disapproval of this move, which was based on where the industry standard is going and which reflects payers' view that there is overlap between the two E/M services.
- Are you contracted with UnitedHealthcare? Has your fee schedule changed to a fixed or frozen resource-based relative value unit? Read AAFP News Now article highlighting the request from AAFP and other medical specialty societies to United to change its course.
- Are payers' performance assessment programs fair? How should I respond to them? For answers to these and other questions, read the AAFP Members Guide to Physician Assessment Programs (8-page Members Only PDF; About PDFs).
