New International Survey: More Than Half of Chronically Ill U.S. Adults Skip Needed Care Due to Costs

November 13, 2008 - A new Commonwealth Fund survey of chronically ill patients in eight industrialized nations—Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States—finds that those in the U.S. are by far the most likely to forgo care because of the cost, as well as the most likely to experience medical errors, care coordination problems, and high out-of-pocket costs.

A Call to Action on Health Reform

November 12, 2008 - Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.) has issued a health reform proposal that builds on the best of our existing public–private system. Commonwealth Fund research has indicated that a "building blocks" framework reflected in the Baucus plan, which includes strategies such as a national insurance exchange with a public plan modeled on Medicare, could cover nearly all of the uninsured.
