John Coumbe-Lilley Ph.D., CSCS is Principal of Practice Transformation Institute (PTI). He is responsible for project development, implementation and evaluation of training and education events. He leads workshops and consults to help medical practices and organizations to transform themselves and improve performance through training, education and coaching. John’s previous role was as Chief Operating Officer of a large Michigan physicians’ organization where he directed and developed a regionally and nationally recognized adult weight management program and an American Diabetes Association accredited diabetic self-management education program. In 2005 his work in disease prevention was recognized by the Michigan Surgeon General’s “Michigan Steps Up” Program.
John received a doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago where he also taught for five years in the College of Applied Health Sciences. His doctorate research focused on self-management training for people with chronic medical conditions. He is faculty member and practice mentor with the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Practice Enhancement Forum and an adjunct faculty member with Central Michigan University’s College of Education. In 2007 in partnership with North Oakland Medical Center, Department of Family Medicine. John introduced curriculum components for residents learning specific to the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH), quality improvement and team performance. He is an active advocate for the PCMH and patient-centered medicine.
