What is the AAFP Quality Initiative?

The AAFP Quality Initiative is the Academy's pursuit to establish the discipline of family medicine as the premiere medical discipline for quality health care.

Quality Initiative Goal

The ultimate goal of the AAFP Quality Initiative is to improve the health status, outcomes, and satisfaction of patients while enhancing the family physician’s practice viability and vitality.

Quality Initiative Objectives

The AAFP Quality Initiative objectives include:
  • Measure and demonstrate the quality of care provided by family physicians;
  • Develop, test, and deploy intervention strategies to improve care; and,
  • Educate and engage family physicians in health care quality improvement.

AAFP Policy

AAFP Commitment to Quality Health Care: The American Academy of Family Physicians is committed to preserving and promoting quality, cost-effective health care by family physicians with (1) scientifically valid and relevant continuing education; (2) programs and tools to assess and improve the quality of health care provided to patients; (3) representation and partnerships with other organizations dedicated to providing quality care to patients.
