Meaningful Use

The Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) Incentive Programs provide incentive payments to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) as they adopt, implement, upgrade or demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology.

Meaningful User
Beginning in 2013, the Medicare EHR Incentive Program provides up to $39,000 cumulative bonus payments for each eligible provider who demonstrate MU of certified EHR technology. Medicare penalties for those who do not demonstrate MU are set to begin in 2015.

The Medicaid EHR Incentive Program provides up to $ $63,750 cumulative bonus payments for each eligible provider. This program does not have a penalty.
