Safety Recalls and Alerts
The FDA has posted links to the following information on its "Recalls, Market Withdrawals & Safety Alerts" Web page:
- "Krinos Foods, LLC. is Expanding its April 28, 2013, Recall to Include Additional Expiration Dates Jan 01, 2014, to Jun 08, 2014, of Tahini Products Because of Possible Health Risk" -- Krinos Foods LLC, of Long Island City, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling its Tahini sesame paste because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled product is sold in 1- and 2-lb glass jars and in 40-lb plastic pails. The UPC codes for the three affected products are, respectively, 0-75013-28500-3, 0-75013-28510-2 and 0-75013-04018-3. The recalled lots have expiration dates ranging from Jan. 1, 2014, through June 8, 2014, and from Oct. 16, 2014, through March 15 – 2015. These products were distributed via retail outlets nationwide.
The FDA has published an April summary of drug products with safety labeling changes to the labels' Boxed Warnings, Contraindications, Warnings, Adverse Reaction and/or Patient Package Insert/Medication Guide sections.
Multistate Foodborne Outbreaks
The CDC has posted a link to the following information on its "Current Outbreak List" Web page.
- "Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Saintpaul Infections Linked to Imported Cucumbers" -- A total of 81 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Saintpaul have been reported from 18 states. Twenty-nine percent of ill people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.
- "Multistate Outbreak of Human Salmonella Typhimurium Infections Linked to Live Poultry" -- A total of 146 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Typhimurium have been reported from 26 states. Thirty percent of ill people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.
- "Multistate Outbreak of Human Salmonella Infantis and Salmonella Mbandaka Infections Linked to Live Poultry" -- A total of 61 people infected with the outbreak strains of Salmonella Infantis and Salmonella Mbandaka have been reported from 18 states. Thirty-five percent of ill people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.
- "Multistate Outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli O121 Infections Linked to Farm Rich Brand Frozen Food Products" -- A total of 35 people infected with the outbreak strain of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli O121 have been reported from 19 states. Thirty-one percent of ill people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.
