John Clowe, M.D., FAAFP -- John Clowe, M.D., FAAFP, of Englewood, Fla., died May 25 at age 89. A former AMA president, Clowe had been a member of the Academy since 1954.

Barbara Starfield, M.D., M.P.H. -- Barbara Starfield, M.D., M.P.H., of Baltimore, died June 10 at age 78. A pediatrician and renown health services researcher, Starfield was considered a strong advocate for primary care and a friend to family medicine.

Thomas Stern, M.D., FAAFP -- Thomas Stern, M.D., FAAFP, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died May 28 at age 90. He had been a member of the Academy since 1956. A former director of the AAFP Division of Education and founder of the Academy's Residency Assistance Program -- now known as Residency Program Solutions -- Stern held a number of other positions with the AAFP and the AAFP Foundation and received multiple honors from both organizations.

Thomas Owens Sr., M.D. -- Thomas Owens Sr., M.D., of Panama City, Panama, died Dec. 18, 2008, at age 72. He had been a member of the Academy since 1969.

George "Ned" Burket Jr., M.D. -- AAFP Past President George "Ned" Burket Jr., M.D., died March 28 at age 95. Burket had been a member of the Academy since 1949.

Norman Haug, M.D., FAAFP -- Norman Haug, M.D., FAAFP, of Del Norte, Colo., died May 6. He had been a member of the Academy since 1971.

Ronald Bangasser, M.D., FAAFP -- Ronald Bangasser, M.D., FAAFP, 57, of Redlands, Calif., died May 2. He had been a member of the Academy since 1976.

Thomas Carroll, M.D., FAAFP -- Thomas Carroll, M.D., FAAFP, 87, of Sibley, Iowa, died Feb. 15. He had been a member of the Academy since 1960.

Joseph Czarsty, M.D., FAAFP -- Joseph Czarsty, M.D., FAAFP, 78, of Oakville, Conn., died July 21. He had been a member of the Academy since 1958.

Edward Ciriacy, M.D., FAAFP -- Edward Ciriacy, M.D., FAAFP, 82, of Minneapolis died June 21. He had been a member of the Academy since 1955.

Kathleen Galbraith, M.D., FAAFP -- Kathleen Ann Galbraith, M.D., FAAFP, 50, of Portland, Ind., died June 2. She had been a member of the Academy since 1982.

Jack Medalie, M.D., M.P.H., FAAFP -- Jack Medalie, M.D., M.P.H., FAAFP, 84, of Cleveland died June 20. He had been a member of the Academy since 1977.

Sanford Bloom, M.D. -- Sanford Bloom, M.D., 84, of Santa Barbara, Calif., died Sept. 18. He had been a member of the Academy since 1957.
