AAFP Hands Out Honors, Awards During 2008 Annual Assembly

Each year at the AAFP Assembly, the Academy recognizes members and others for their outstanding contributions to family medicine. The following persons were honored during this year's Assembly.
- 2009 Family Physician of the Year -- William Ellert, M.D., of Phoenix
- Honorary Membership -- Paul Grundy, M.D., director of Healthcare Technology and Strategic Initiatives at IBM, and Martin Sepulveda, M.D., vice president for Global Well-Being Services and Health Benefits at IBM
- John G. Walsh Award for Lifetime Contributions to Family Medicine -- Jeannette South-Paul, M.D., of Pittsburgh
- Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education -- Norman Kahn, M.D., of Prairie Village, Kan.
- Exemplary Teaching Awards -- Reid Blackwelder, M.D., of Kingsport, Tenn. (full-time/part-time faculty); Cathy Woodring, M.D., of Wichita, Kan. (volunteer faculty)
- AAFP Public Health Award -- Janet Realini, M.D., M.P.H., of San Antonio
- Robert Graham Physician Executive Award -- John Montgomery, M.D., M.P.H., of Orange Park, Fla.
- AAFP Humanitarian Award -- Stoney Abercrombie, M.D., of Anderson, S.C.
- Award of Merit -- Holley Midgely, C.A.E., EVP of the Alabama AFP
