Beef Up Your Business Skills at Crash Course

By News Staff

Is managing the business aspects of your practice your weak spot? If so, AAFP's Crash Course on Cash, Codes & Computers Sept. 26 - 27 in San Francisco might help improve your financial management skills.

The course targets physicians in small to medium-size practices and teaches business basics such as how to read balance sheets and income statements. Experts on diagnostic and procedural coding will provide tips that could improve a practice's bottom line. The course also highlights health information technology used in medical practices to support business and clinical workflows and processes and briefly reviews the latest developments affecting development of health information standards.

In a testimonial about the crash course, one participant boiled down the information she gained by attending to a single phrase: "coding information made simple." The same physician said she felt less intimidated by the accounting and business aspects of her practice after having attended the course.

Family physicians can earn as many as 13 Prescribed AAFP credits for participating in the crash course. Note that the course immediately precedes the AAFP Scientific Assembly, Sept. 28 - Oct. 2 in San Francisco.
