The diagnosis of diabetes can raise a myriad of questions in the patient's mind. A pair of brochures from the AAFP Family Health Facts series answers some of the most commonly asked questions and offers needed advice in an easily digestible format the patient can take home.

Brochures
"Diabetes" focuses on control of blood sugar levels as key to successfully managing the disease. The brochure gives tips on sugar level testing technique and frequency, and discusses how diet, exercise and other factors can affect levels. It also examines the effects of alcohol and tobacco on diabetes and when to call a doctor if a problem develops.

"Diabetes and Your Body" looks at the effects of diabetes on the body, especially on the eyes and feet, and discusses related maintenance, prevention and care issues. It also offers information on when to call a doctor for vision problems.

The brochures are available in packs of 50 for $12.50. Order online or by calling the AAFP Order Department at (800) 944-0000 and requesting item 1530 for "Diabetes" or item 1553 for "Diabetes and Your Body."
