Check Mailbox for Disaster Planning, Insurance Info

By News Staff

Keep an eye on your mailbox for the latest issue of Your Financial Health. The front-page story can help you and your family prepare for disasters caused by foul weather, fire or terrorism.

Some tips include
  • keeping a family emergency plan that includes home fire escape routes, designated meeting places and contact people;
  • maintaining a grab-and-go bag with copies of important documents;
  • making arrangements for boarding pets in advance (most shelters won't allow them); and
  • preparing a long-term plan to protect documents and property, including taking photos or video of property and keeping your records in a safe deposit box for insurance purposes.
No matter the source of the disaster, everyone's safety net should include adequate amounts of life or disability insurance. That's why The Family Physician Insurance Program has been available exclusively to AAFP members for 55 years.

Whether you need stand-alone coverage or a supplement to your employer-provided insurance, The Family Physician Insurance Program was created for you and is surprisingly affordable. Many rates are actually lower today than they were in 1980.

Go online for more information. You'll find worksheets to help you determine the proper amount of insurance you need, product descriptions, rates and application forms. You also may call (800) 325-8166 or e-mail for details about the program.
