"This site is intended to be a single source for reliable, balanced information on a variety of health topics -- a source family physicians can feel good about recommending to their patients," said Leigh McKinney, director of AAFP's Division of Online and Custom Publishing. "This award spotlights the Academy's commitment to the health of the public," said McKinney, who accepted the award on behalf of the Academy.

According to information provided in the event program, judges were impressed by the Web site's comprehensive, high-quality content; its easy-to-navigate design; and the inclusion of Spanish translations of much of the material covered.

As testimony to the Web site's public appeal, the program noted that site visits increased 132 percent in the past year; the number of unique visitors increased 122 percent.
