In the next few weeks, you'll be receiving information about FamMedPAC, the Academy's new political action committee. Citing a need to bring family physicians' voices directly to the nation's political table, the 2004 Congress of Delegates approved formation of the federal PAC, poised to begin operations in June.

FamMedPAC's activities will include:
- Making direct contributions to candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Candidates will be chosen to receive FamMedPAC contributions based on their membership on important legislative committees and/or their voting records and positions as they relate to the priorities of family physicians and their patients.
- Regularly informing contributors about FamMedPAC activities.
- Providing contributors an “insider” view of the national political scene and how it stands to impact the priorities of family physicians.
FamMedPAC Board of Directors
Michael Fleming, M.D., of Shreveport, La., will chair the FamMedPAC Board of Directors, and Randell Wexler, M.D., of Columbus, Ohio, will serve as treasurer.
Other PAC board members are David Carlyle, M.D., of Ames, Iowa; Jose David, M.D., of Albany, N.Y.; Daniel Heinemann, M.D., of Canton, S.D.; Thomas Hicks, M.D., of Tallahassee, Fla.; Jim King, M.D., of Selmer, Tenn.; Dana Ware, M.D., of Chester, Calif.; Mary Jo Welker, M.D., of Columbus, Ohio; Richard Wherry, M.D., of Dahlonega, Ga.; and Richard Zachrich, M.D., of Santa Maria, Calif.
