Academy Updates Katrina Response via New Web Resource

The AAFP has launched a Web resource designed to update members on the Academy's, individual FPs' and constituent chapters' responses  to Hurricane Katrina. The page provides links to news coverage about the Academy's response to the hurricane, a list of CME opportunities related to disaster response and other resources for members.

One link on the Web page goes to a Sept. 12 letter from AAFP President Mary Frank, M.D., of Mill Valley, Calif., who praised members' outpouring of support for those living in Hurricane Katrina's path and for colleagues whose practices fell to the storm's fury. The letter also updates the method by which family physicians can volunteer to help victims of Hurricane Katrina and lists the latest contribution totals to the Academy's Emergency Relief Fund, which had reached $147,224 by Sept. 12.

Members who go to the AAFP News Now Hurricane Katrina bulletin board can post stories of their experiences after the storm, such as volunteering to care for those in Katrina's path or rebuilding a medical practice damaged by the storm.
