By News Staff

If you're interested in medical writing and editing, as well as faculty development, consider applying for AAFP's fellowship in medical editing. The one-year fellowship, based at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, D.C., begins in July.

The fellow serves as apprentice editor to Jay Siwek, M.D., editor of American Family Physician. The fellow's responsibilities include

  • soliciting, reviewing and editing manuscripts;
  • managing an AFP column; and
  • writing patient education material and content for AFP's "Tips From Other Journals."

The fellow's faculty development activities include serving as an instructor and junior faculty member at Georgetown University Medical Center, seeing patients in a community health center, precepting family medicine residents, teaching medical students, participating in an on-call schedule and making inpatient rounds.

Apply by March 1 by submitting a letter of interest and curriculum vitae to Siwek at siwekj@georgetown.edu.
