The world of pay-for-performance can be a daunting at first. This who's who of major players and insurance companies includes Web addresses and brief descriptions, as well as Academy resources. The list should solve some pay-for-performance mysteries.
Major Players
America's Health Insurance Plans -- AHIP is a national advocacy group for health insurance plans.
Integrated Healthcare Association -- This California group consists of health plans, physician groups and health systems, as well as academic, purchaser, pharmaceutical, and consumer representatives, all of which are involved in policy development.
AMA Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement -- The Consortium aims to ensure that medicine has a leadership role in forums designed to evaluate quality of care and that it serves as a leading source for evidence-based clinical performance measures.
Ambulatory care Quality Alliance -- Co-founded by the AAFP, the AQA's goal is to effectively and efficiently improve performance measurement, data aggregation and reporting in an ambulatory care setting.
Bridges to Excellence -- BTE is a nonprofit group piloted by employers, health providers and insurance plans that encourages providers to deliver optimal care and patients to seek evidence-based care and self-manage their conditions.
National Committee for Quality Assurance -- The NCQA is a nonprofit organization that aims to "transform" the quality of health care through measurement, accountability and transparency.
National Quality Forum -- The NQF is a not-for-profit membership group created to develop and implement a national strategy for health care quality measurement and reporting.
