Here's help for your patients with concerns about vision loss or other eye-related problems. NIHSeniorHealth.gov, a Web site for older adults developed by the National Institute on Aging and National Library of Medicine, recently added five vision-related topics to its menu of health issues. Visitors to the site can now find information about glaucoma, cataract, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and low vision.

The NIH-sponsored site covers a wide range of aging-related health topics. Among them: arthritis, balance problems, hearing loss and Alzheimer's disease. The site also offers insight on health issues such as exercise, sleep disorders and proper use of medications.

Coverage of each health topics includes information on causes and risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment options; open-captioned video clips; quizzes; and frequently asked questions. The site also links seniors to additional MedlinePlus resources for each topic.

NIHSeniorHealth.gov is known for its "senior-friendly" features. Users can easily adjust the text size of the site's short, easy-to-read print segments and can -- with a single mouse click -- enhance the visual contrast of the site for easier viewing. Navigating the site is simple and straightforward, and there's even a "talking" feature that allows visitors to hear the information shown on the screen being spoken aloud.
