HHS Offers Radiation Treatment Toolkit

HHS has created a new online toolkit for physicians who may have to treat patients during radiation-related accidents or other radiologic incidents.
The Radiation Event Medical Management, or REMM, Web site provides information on identifying types of radiation emergencies, as well as offering initial and medical facility response guidelines and long-term management and follow-up tools.
The site also provides step-by-step flowcharts for managing potential exposure and contamination, charts showing triage categories with and without combined injury (i.e., physical, thermal, and/or chemical trauma combined with radiation exposure), and an online reference center.
The entire REMM Web site may be downloaded to a computer for portability. But keep in mind that this is a sizable set of files (54.1 MB) to download and store.
Finally, one way to keep abreast of this topic while receiving announcements of improved site functionality and "bug fixes" is to join the REMM e-mail discussion list.
