AAFP Evaluating Quality Improvement Programs
Family Physicians Needed for Research Project
By News Staff
10/27/2008
Practices are needed for a formal evaluation of the AAFP's METRIC, or Measuring, Evaluating and Translating Research Into Care, and Practice Enhancement Forum, or PEF, programs.
Both METRIC and PEF are AAFP-sponsored quality improvement programs. The study will compare groups using METRIC or PEF to a control, or standard care, group. The goal of the study is to determine whether the use of a METRIC or PEF program has changed systems or processes and improved health care outcomes.
Participating physicians can receive research CME credits, and they will be compensated for time and expenses. Those participating in the control group will not complete a METRIC or PEF project but will complete study assessments and chart reviews. Practices will be reimbursed for reviewing charts.
Participating physicians can select asthma, coronary artery disease or diabetes for the focus of their study and must provide a list of their patients with the selected condition. Participants also will receive reports that will compare their practices with other practices in the study.
Interested individuals should contact Brian Manning, M.P.H., project co-manager, at (800) 274-2237, Ext. 3179; Angela Meers-Lanigan, M.P.H., project co-manager, at Ext. 3173; or James Galliher, Ph.D., principal investigator, at Ext. 3170.
