Physicians who want to brush up on the latest evidence-based management strategies for diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke, arthritis and other chronic diseases may want to head for the desert -- the Sonoran Desert surrounding Tucson, Ariz., to be precise -- Feb. 15-17. That's where the AAFP will host its Chronic Illness: A Case-based Approach to Practical Management course.

For Your Benefit
Large-group lectures and smaller breakout sessions will cover various aspects of a number of chronic diseases and include discussions about conducting patient group visits, assessing practice performance using specific quality measures and adhering to clinical guidelines.

Course participants should learn to
  • describe key treatment principles for understanding and managing chronic diseases;
  • discuss the clinical presentation of common disorders;
  • apply evidence-based recommendations when prescribing for patients with coronary artery disease, mellitus, obesity, arthritis or other conditions; and
  • apply management and decision-making skills in small-group, case-based learning situations.
Plenty of time is scheduled to allow participants to interact with the course faculty -- many of them nationally acclaimed speakers -- who will present various clinical scenarios at the course.

Family physicians can earn as many as 17.25 Prescribed CME credits for this educational activity.

Online registration is available. You also can learn about hotel accommodations online; the deadline for housing reservations is Jan. 14.
