By News Staff

Physicians who treat sports medicine patients -- from well-conditioned athletes to "weekend warriors" -- and who want to learn more about diagnosing, treating and managing sports-related injuries may wish to sign up for the Academy's Sports Medicine: Strategies for Treating Athletes course, scheduled for Feb. 7-11.

The course, to be held in Daytona Beach, Fla., provides an in-depth and up-to-date look at sports medicine that's designed to broaden the family physician's approach to management and treatment decisions.

Topics have been selected to maximize understanding of new and progressive therapeutic strategies and technological advances, and plenty of time for discussion and interaction has been included in the schedule. After completing the course, participants can expect to be able to

  • describe recent advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sports medicine problems;
  • discuss the role of exercise in the prevention, cause and treatment of sports medicine conditions; and
  • identify the role of the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems in health, disease, injury prevention, rehabilitation and optimal physical performance.
This course also may benefit physicians who are preparing for the examination leading to a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Family Medicine or for the sports medicine module of the ABFM certification/recertification exam.

The sports medicine strategies course is approved for as many as 33 Prescribed CME credits. Registration is available online.
