The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, or STFM, is offering a fellowship program to provide current and aspiring predoctoral directors the information they need to be successful in the role of predoctoral director.

For Your Benefit
This is the second year of the Predoctoral Directors Development Institute, or PDDI. The program will include information on:
  • directing a clerkship or preclinical course,
  • obtaining and managing resources,
  • developing curricula and exams,
  • evaluating students,
  • dealing with difficult students,
  • recruiting preceptors,
  • writing grants, and
  • negotiating support from the chair or dean of the academic institution sponsoring the predoctoral program.
Fellows will complete an individualized project and will work with an adviser. Participants must commit to attend the program's two full-day workshops, which will be on Jan. 24 in Portland, Ore., immediately before the STFM Predoctoral Education Conference, and on April 30 in Baltimore, immediately before the STFM Annual Spring Conference. In addition, participants in the PDDI will be required to attend specific PDDI sessions at each conference.

Tuition for the PDDI, which is $1,950 for STFM members and $2,195 for nonmembers, includes the registration fee for both conferences. Interested parties can download a registration form (1-page PDF; About PDFs), fill it out and mail it to STFM, 11400 Tomahawk Creek Parkway, Leawood, KS 66211, or fax it to (913) 906-6096.
