Deadlines Approaching to Earn, Report CME Credits

By News Staff

AAFP active and supporting members who have reached the end of their three-year Academy membership re-election cycles are reminded that the deadline to finish earning the 150 CME credits required for re-election is Dec. 31, 2009.
Professional Development
Members have until March 31, 2010, to report those credits.

Members can learn about the variety of educational activities offered by the Academy to fulfill their CME needs -- including online options -- as well as view their cumulated CME credits, check their re-election status and report their CME via the AAFP CME Center.

By reporting CME online, (Members Only) Academy members' CME credit tally will be updated automatically. Members also can fax their CME Reporting Forms
(2-page PDF; About PDFs) to (913) 906-6075 or mail them to the AAFP Contact Center, 11400 Tomahawk Creek Parkway, Leawood, KS, 66211-2672.

According to the AAFP Continuing Education Requirements for Members (4-page PDF; About PDFs), of the 150 CME credits required every three calendar years for re-election to Academy membership, at least 75 must be Prescribed credits, and 25 must be from live group learning activities. Individual chapters also may require chapter credits.

Members in other membership categories are not required to report CME but may do so to maintain a centralized location for their CME records.
