The Annual Clinical Focus 2005 Genomics programs, online last year as CME video modules, are now also available in text. The eight programs explore the role inheritance plays in developing certain conditions and how knowledge of patients' genetic pedigrees can aid diagnosis and -- sometimes -- treatment of those conditions. The programs feature case studies and provide resources for physicians and patients.
Each program is eligible for Prescribed CME credit, whether the learner chooses to view the video or download the text version. Learners can access each transcript by selecting the appropriate topic link.
The eight modules, posted at different times throughout last year, attracted 13,605 visits in 2005. The most popular video addressed breast cancer. Other topics in the series are family history, Alzheimer's disease, colorectal cancer, bipolar disorder, newborn screening, hemochromatosis and autism.
As another part of the 2005 ACF, physicians may gain up to 20 CME credits by participating in a quality improvement project on collecting and recording family history.
