FPs Can Access Materials Via Tablet, Smartphone

Family physicians preparing for the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) board exam now have access to the breadth of the AAFP's board review course in an online format.
According to Kathy Marian, M.Ed., AAFP manager of CME standards and outcomes, the new interactive learning package, similar to all Academy-built CME, was developed by family physicians and offers an evidence-based, comprehensive review of the material on the exam. But what makes this offering different from earlier AAFP board review packages is ease of access, says Marian.
"Anyone using a desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone can access the online board review sessions, watch the videos, complete the pre- and post-tests, fill out the session evaluations, and claim CME credit," Marian says. "And though desktop and laptop users have access to more video display options, all users have access to at least some of the options, depending on their device."
According to Marian, the Academy began working on bringing a web-enabled board review option to FPs more than two years ago in response to the increased demand for online CME solutions. She also notes that though this new delivery format is available to members, the AAFP continues to provide live and physical learning packages for members to support their preparation for the board exam.
"We are continually looking to enhance the way we deliver CME to members," Marian says. "Our physicians need to be able to access CME where and when they want it, and so we are continually working to provide them more options.
"The new, online version allows members to complete a session and then return again the next time an opportunity presents itself for additional learning and review. We want to make access to CME as easy as possible."
The current online board review software offers:

- up to 38.75 AAFP Prescribed credits,
- more than 400 board-style questions,
- pre- and post-tests,
- 48 30-minute lectures,
- case-based presentations,
- downloadable syllabi for each session,
- an interactive Question Pause feature, and
- 14 question-and-answer sessions with expert FPs.
The online self-study software runs on both PC- and Mac-formatted computers, as well as on iPads, Android tablets, iPhones, and Android smartphones.
Marian says the Academy currently is working to develop additional online CME products, as well.
