February may be more than half over, but there's still plenty of time during American Heart Month to discuss cardiovascular disease with your patients. Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in both men and women in the United States, according to the American Heart Association.

To mark American Heart Month, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute has created the "Your Guide to Better Health series," which provides consumer education booklets on establishing and maintaining heart health.
The six booklets in the series cover information on lowering blood pressure, how to maintain a healthy heart, lowering cholesterol, living with heart disease, physical activity, and healthy sleep. All the booklets are available for purchase or via a free download. Additionally, many of the titles in the Your Guide series also are abridged and published in the In Brief: Your Guide fact sheet series, which also can be found on the NHLBI Your Guide site.
