CDC Immunizations Web Site Gets Updated Look

By News Staff

The CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases gave its National Immunization Program Web site a major face-lift last month. In fact, if you go online looking for the old NIP site, you won't find it. Instead, you'll find yourself rerouted to a new Web destination, "Vaccines & Immunizations."

The Web site's redesigned landing page features an easy-to-read format and gives visitors a listing of the types of information available on the site. Topics include
  • immunization schedules,
  • recommendations and guidelines,
  • vaccines and preventable diseases,
  • statistics and surveillance,
  • calendars and events,
  • news and media resources,
  • publications,
  • programs and tools, and
  • education and training.
Special sections labeled for health care professionals, program managers, parents and specific patient populations provide materials and resources targeted to those groups. Links to related online resources and CDC contact information appear in the left-hand column of the new home page.

An "In the Spotlight" section near the top of the page offers visitors a quick overview of items most recently posted on the site and includes a link to an archive of those items listed by their original posting dates. There's also a link from this section to an online form visitors can use to comment on the revamped site. And, finally, those who previously had linked to one or more URLs on the old NIP site can request the corresponding URLs on the new site using another online form.
