Aug. 1 is Deadline to Apply to Receive AAFP Degree of Fellow

By News Staff

Want to apply for the AAFP Degree of Fellow? Aug. 1 is the date to remember. Active, life or inactive members with dues and re-elections in good standing have until that day to apply to the Academy for this honor.

Professional Development
The AAFP Degree of Fellow exists to honor members who have distinguished themselves professionally and in their communities through their service to family medicine, by providing advanced health care to the public and via their professional development through medical education and research.

To receive the Degree of Fellow, applicants must have a combination of resident and/or active membership for a total of six years and must accumulate at least 100 points, as defined by the application.

The new Fellows will be honored at an invitation-only convocation breakfast held during 2006 AAFP Scientific Assembly on Sept. 30 in Washington, D.C. This year’s keynote speaker at the breakfast will be former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., FAAFP. Individuals do not need to be present to receive the distinction.

Applications may be completed online or printed out and mailed to the Academy. Call (800) 274-2237, Ext. 6812, with questions.
