Each year at the AAFP Assembly, the Academy recognizes members and others for their outstanding contributions to family medicine. The following persons were honored during this year’s Assembly, Sept. 27-Oct 1 in Washington, D.C.
- 2007 Family Physician of the Year — Steven Levin, M.D., of New Brunswick, N.J.
- Honorary Membership — Reg Perkin, M.D., of Mississauga, Ontario, former executive director of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and Sandra Panther, C.F.R.E., executive director of the AAFP Foundation
- John G. Walsh Award for Lifetime Contributions to Family Medicine — James Martin, M.D., of San Antonio
- Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education — L. Thomas Wolff, M.D., of Liverpool, N.Y.
- Exemplary Teaching Awards — Philip Diller, M.D., Ph.D., of Cincinnati (full-time faculty); Ann Aring, M.D., of Columbus, Ohio (part-time faculty); Martha Illige, M.D., of Denver (part-time faculty); and George Mogill, M.D., of Detroit (volunteer faculty)
- AAFP Public Health Award — Susan Schooley, M.D., of Detroit
- Robert Graham Family Physician Executive Award — Roland Goertz, M.D., M.B.A., of Waco, Texas
- Humanitarian Award — Kathleen Bliese, M.D., of Grand Island, Neb.
