Each year, Tar Wars coordinators submit the winning posters from their states for consideration in the AAFP Tar Wars National Poster Contest. Winners of the national competition will be honored during the annual Tar Wars National Conference in Washington, D.C., where all posters submitted for consideration will be displayed. Prizes are given for placement at many levels: special recognition, honorable mention (fifth through 10th place) and first through fourth place. The first-place winner will receive a trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. Each state winner who attends will receive a prize packet.

This annual event offers youngsters a chance to take their tobacco-free message directly to our nation's capital. State poster contest winners, their families, Tar Wars coordinators and other Tar Wars enthusiasts are encouraged to attend. This year, the Tar Wars National Conference is scheduled for July 16-17 and will feature an awards banquet from 6-9 p.m. on July 16, with plenty of time for visits to the Capitol Hill offices of the contest winners' legislators from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on July 17.
