Delegates at 2007 NCSC Choose New Leaders

Representatives from AAFP constituent chapters who attended the Academy's National Conference of Special Constituencies here May 3-5 elected colleagues to fill various leadership positions during the meeting.
New physician member on the AAFP Board of Directors: Jason Marker, M.D., of Wyatt, Ind.
New physician alternate delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates: Jennifer Brull, M.D., of Plainville, Kan., and Jason Dees, D.O., of New Albany, Miss.
Special constituency alternate delegates to the AAFP Congress: Joseph Freund, M.D., of Des Moines, Iowa; Kiran Khanolkar, M.D., of Keokuk, Iowa; Anne Kittendorf, M.D., of Dexter, Mich.; Adebowale Prest, M.D., of Berlin, Md.; Patricia Witherspoon, M.D., of Columbia, S.C.; and Lillian Wu, M.D., of Renton, Wash.
AAFP delegate to the AMA Young Physicians Section: Michael King, M.D., of Lexington, Ky.
AAFP alternate delegate to the AMA Young Physicians Section: Tina Brueschke, M.D., of Geneva, Ill.
And in a special election, Laura Ellis, M.D., of Dothan, Ala., was chosen to fill a vacant delegate seat on the special constituency delegation to the 2007 AAFP Congress; that seat was vacated by Muhammed Ayub, M.D., of Olympia, Wash.
According to Michael Sevilla, M.D., of Salem, Ohio, convener of the 2007 NCSC, about 70 FPs attending this year's conference were first-time participants. In addition, some 75 resolutions were submitted for consideration, and about 30 attendees ran for office. "I'm very proud of the work that was accomplished," Sevilla said in an e-mail to conference participants after the meeting.
"I hope that the energy and empowerment that was generated at the meeting is brought home so that it can continue at the state and local level," he added.
