The 2007 Congress of Delegates will act on proposed amendments to the AAFP Bylaws, as well as on resolutions submitted by various constituencies, when the Congress meets Oct. 1-3 in Chicago.
Proposed Amendment 1 would allow Uniformed Services chapter membership for former members of the uniformed services who practice within a military facility.
Proposed Amendment 2 would change the CME requirements for active and supporting FP membership. There would be no prior CME requirements for applicants who have never been active or supporting FP members or who held active or supporting FP membership two or more years prior to application. Applicants who formerly held active or supporting FP membership less than two years prior to application would have a requirement of 100 CME credits accumulated in the two years prior to application.
Topics of the resolutions submitted so far this year include cultural proficiency, changes in CPT codes, chronic disease registries in electronic health records, condemnation of the criminalization of medical practice, retail health clinics, disaster planning, procedural training in family medicine residencies, and patient/physician confidentiality.
