The Center for the History of Family Medicine, or CHFM, has received a five-year, $75,000 commitment from the American Board of Family Medicine, or ABFM, Foundation to provide long-term funding for the center.

"The center is the only central repository for most of the important historical documents associated with the evolution of our specialty," said ABFM Foundation President James Puffer, M.D. "The ABFM Foundation is therefore pleased to provide continuing support for this valuable resource."

With this commitment, the ABFM Foundation joins a number of other family medicine organizations in supporting the CHFM.

Thanks, in part, to such support, the CHFM unveiled a new exhibit at the AAFP Scientific Assembly in Chicago on Oct. 3 to celebrate both the 60th anniversary of the AAFP and the 50th anniversary of the AAFP Foundation. The exhibit runs until Oct. 6.

The joint exhibit, which is titled "The AAFP and AAFP/F: A Tribute to Excellence," highlights each decade in the Academy's and Foundation's histories. The exhibit includes photographs, artifacts and other materials held by the CHFM.

The CHFM, which is housed at the AAFP's headquarters in Leawood, Kan., is administered by the AAFP Foundation and is the principal resource center for the collection, conservation, exhibition and study of materials relating to the history of family medicine in the United States.
