By News Staff
Nominees for the award, which honors individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the health of the American public at the national, state or local level, may be practicing physicians, public health physicians or even nonphysicians. Chapters may resubmit the names of previous nominees by notifying commission staff in writing and providing additional or updated background materials.
The award recipient will receive a commemorative plaque, presented by AAFP President Jim King, M.D., of Selmer, Tenn., during the opening ceremony of the 2008 AAFP Scientific Assembly on Sept. 17 in San Diego. The winner also receives round-trip coach airfare, two nights' lodging and other travel-related expenses to attend the ceremony.
