Each year, research papers and posters presented at Assembly showcase scholarly activity within the specialty. In addition, because potential presenters do not have to be Academy members, these presentations can highlight basic or clinical research findings by clinicians and academicians in other specialties that are relevant to family medicine.
Among other criteria considered in evaluating applicants' submissions are

- the quality of research design, methodology and scientific content;
- an absence of promotional, commercial or ethical conflicts of interest; and
- whether the research project has successfully met the requirements of the applicant's local institutional review board for approval or waiver.
Additional key points to keep in mind:
- Applicants who wish to present original research posters at this year's Assembly should submit their abstracts by the April 18 deadline.
- Applicants who wish to present Category I (original research) research papers need submit only their abstracts by the April deadline. Successful applicants will be required to submit their full papers by June 30.
- Applicants who wish to present Category II (case study or literature review) papers should submit their complete papers by the April 18 cutoff.
