TransforMED Changes Business Status

Effective June 1, TransforMED, a wholly owned subsidiary of the AAFP, became a limited liability company, or LLC.
The company will offer support and consultation services to primary care physicians and health systems as they align the care they provide with the patient-centered medical home concept.
"The LLC creates the opportunity for TransforMED to react more quickly and appropriately to rapid changes in today's health care environment," said Terry McGeeney, M.D., M.B.A., TransforMED president and CEO.
TransforMED was established as a division of the Academy in 2005 to help put into practice the recommendations of the Future of Family Medicine report that called for the creation of a new model of care for family medicine. In 2006, the company launched a two-year national demonstration project to help more than 30 family medicine practices nationwide undertake practice reform. A final report documenting lessons learned from the recently concluded project is expected in early 2009.
