Deadline Nears to Apply for AAFP Degree of Fellow, Other Awards

- AAFP Degree of Fellow. The degree of Fellow recognizes Academy members who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities, by their service to family medicine, their advancement of health care to the American people, and their professional development through medical education and research. Fellowships will be conferred at the annual fellowship breakfast on Sept. 20 during the 2008 Scientific Assembly in San Diego. - H. Winter Griffith Award. This award recognizes excellence in practice improvement that involves patient education produced by an individual or an organization. The practice improvement activity should document a measurable change in patient knowledge, attitudes, skills or environment that improves measures of patient health behavior or measures of health. The patient education activities can include print, Web-based education or monitoring, or other electronic media. Awards will be presented during the 2008 Conference on Practice Improvement, Dec. 4-7, in Savannah, Ga. The conference is jointly sponsored by the AAFP and STFM. In addition to a commemorative plaque and a cash award, recipients receive a $300 stipend for travel to the conference, as well as a complimentary conference registration. - Medical Economics Award for Innovation in Practice Improvement. This award is presented to a health professional or not-for-profit organization involved in developing innovative practice improvement programs and strategies that transform office processes, promote patient participation, and contribute to an office practice's overall success. The award seeks to acknowledge creative, cutting-edge strategies developed to effectively redesign an office-based practice and promote patient participation and practice growth. Awards will be presented during the 2008 Conference on Practice Improvement. Award winners will receive a commemorative plaque and a cash award, plus a $300 stipend for travel to the conference, as well as a complimentary conference registration.
