Physicians With Heart, an annual humanitarian initiative, will visit Moldova Oct. 19-29. Participants are expected to deliver millions of dollars' worth of donated pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and medical supplies; provide education on family medicine; conduct Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®) courses; and bring aid to children's centers.

Physicians With Heart -- a collaborative effort of the Academy; the AAFP Foundation; and Heart to Heart International, a humanitarian organization based in Olathe, Kan. -- has been airlifting support to former Soviet republics since 1993 and also made one trip to Vietnam in 2001. Moldova, an eastern European country surrounded by Ukraine and Romania, welcomed a Physicians With Heart delegation in 2002.

Family physicians who would like more information on volunteering for the second trip to Moldova should call the International Programs Office of Heart to Heart International at (405) 787-5200 or e-mail IP@hearttoheart.org.

In addition, anyone interested in donating to Physicians With Heart may contribute online.
