By News Staff
8/29/2006

Put the September issue of Family Practice Management on your required reading list for fall. In addition to all of the journal's regular departments, this upcoming issue will be chock full of articles featuring tools from The FPM Toolbox, an online collection of handy resources -- all free and most downloadable as PDF files -- to help FPs improve their practices.

Watch for these articles in this special issue.
  • "In Search of a Super Superbill" introduces a one-size-fits-all "superbill," developed with input from FPM readers, that incorporates procedures and lab tests most commonly offered by FPs.
  • "Providing Consistent Care With Standardized Admission Orders" details how standardized admission orders can assist family physicians and points readers to updated versions of nearly 30 orders previously published in FPM.
  • "ICD-9 Codes for Family Medicine: Updated for 2006-07" provides readers with the short list (approximately 600 codes) and the long list (approximately 1,500 codes) of ICD-9 codes. Red arrows highlight the 100 codes most commonly used by FPs. An article explaining how changes for 2006 and 2007 will affect FPs accompanies the lists.
  • "The FPM Encounter Forms Collection" is a collection of special-purpose encounter forms created to facilitate and improve data gathering during various types of office visits.
  • "Improving Communication With Older Patients" describes how to create a visit summary for older patients so they can remember the key points of their visit.
"Our tools have always been popular with readers because of their direct applicability to practice," said FPM Editor-in-Chief Robert Edsall. "We are happy to have a chance to highlight some of the more than 150 tools in our online toolbox," he said.

Look for the September FPM issue online September 8; the print version should appear in members' mailboxes near the middle of the month.
