The Academy's Center for Health Information Technology, or CHiT, has added another module to its list of free CME activities created to help FPs learn how to research, select and implement electronic health records, or EHRs, in their practices.

CHiT Module 4
The latest addition to the series of online tutorials, is "Health Information Technology for the Family Physician Office: Implementing Your Electronic Health Record." The module is designed to help users identify and accomplish pre-implementation tasks and then to help them formulate a strategy for implementing their EHR system.

The video format used means participants do not have to wait for a long download. They just select the module and click on it to gain access to the online flash video.

The latest version of Flash Player must be installed to play the video; users can download the latest version from a link on the CHiT CME site.

After viewing the module, physicians can answer post-test questions. Each module in the series has been approved for AAFP Prescribed credit. This module has been approved for up to one Prescribed credit.

Physicians who haven't yet taken advantage of CHiT's free online video learning, which launched in June 2006, might want to work through the first three modules in the series. Those modules cover
  • hardware and network basics,
  • office redesign and workflow, and
  • selecting an EHR.
