AAFP Checklist Can Help Meet CPC Initiative Deadline

By News Staff

The July 20 deadline for family physicians' participation in CMS' Comprehensive Primary Care (CPC) Initiative is fast approaching. The multipayer demonstration project aims to test a blended payment model and offer enhanced payments to primary care physicians who meet project guidelines.

In an effort to assist physicians who live in one of the seven markets chosen for the project, the AAFP has created a checklist (1-page PDF; About PDFs) that provides physicians with a quick and easy way to gather the details they'll need to complete the application process.

And because CMS has the authority to expand the four-year project if it improves quality and lowers health care costs, physicians living outside those initial seven markets could use the checklist to gain an understanding of the kind of information they would need to share should a pilot pop up in their area in the future.

The checklist includes questions about patient panel characteristics, practice revenue sources, and a practice's past or ongoing participation in quality improvement activities.

In other news related to the project application deadline, CMS is planning evening webinars on July 12 and again on July 16 to answer physician questions about the CPC Initiative; registration for those events soon will be available.
