The five students chosen this year are
- Parker Duncan, of the University of California-Irvine School of Medicine;
- Lara Jirmanus and Olga Valdman, both of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester;
- Anne Kolan, of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison; and
- Lars Peterson, of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland.
The scholarships are intended to reimburse a portion of the medical school debt recipients have incurred by the time they conclude their family medicine residencies. A portion of the funds are distributed to student scholars during their fourth year of medical school, with the remaining funds distributed on a yearly basis during the required three-year residency. Pisacano Scholars are evaluated each year by the Pisacano Leadership Foundation's board of directors to ensure their continued eligibility for the program.
The maximum total scholarship award is $28,000, and there is no service commitment requirement after completion of residency.
