AFMRD's Web Site Gets Major Makeover
Enhanced Search Functions, Easier Navigation Were Goals of Redesign
By Barbara Bein
Starting Aug. 10, members of the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, or AFMRD, and others can visit a redesigned Web site that includes better search functions and more updates. The AFMRD site's makeover aims to make it more user-friendly and easier to navigate.
"The Web site was showing its age, and we wanted to give it a more modern look, provide functionality and make it worth the time to visit," said Gerald "Jay" Fetter, EVP of the AFMRD. "It's designed to enhance its usefulness and to support the learning community of family medicine residency directors and associate directors."
In addition to the enhanced overall search capability, new fields have been added to the member database, allowing members to include information about their scope of practice, areas of professional interest, fellowships and certificates of added qualification. The additions permit members to search for other members using more specific criteria.
For example, using the new scope of practice field, members can indicate whether they provide maternity care or practice inpatient medicine. Members can use the areas of professional interest field to denote their special interest in such issues as women's health, geriatrics, end-of-life care, rural health, spirituality and medicine, behavioral medicine, ethics and humanities, and faculty development. Members also can indicate if they graduated from the National Institute for Program Director Development.
Other favorite features have been retained, including the PD (Program Director) Toolbox, which provides information about and links to resources on various topics, such as financial management, curriculum and education, and research opportunities.
The redesigned Web site will continue to provide information on important issues facing family medicine residencies, upcoming events and links to other family medicine organizations. More enhancements, including the addition of videos and webinars, are planned for the future.
