Dennis Gingrich, MD, resides in the Chocolate town of Hershey, Pa., where he was raised and where he retired after 35 years on faculty at Penn State College of Medicine’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. He also held an appointment in the Humanities Department and was active in teaching and advising students and residents, on curriculum committees, in admissions and Pre-Medical student programming, and as advisor to the Family Medicine Interest Group. Prior to his academic practice, he was in community practice as a partner in the Permanente Medical Group in Los Angeles.
Gingrich earned both his Bachelor of Science and medical degrees from Pennsylvania State University. He completed his residency in family medicine at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of added Qualification in Geriatrics. He has the AAFP Degree of Fellow, and received the AAFP Exemplary Teacher award in 2014.
Gingrich is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and serves on the boards of the AAFP Foundation and AAFP Insurance, Inc. as well as the Board of Curators of the Center for the History of Family Medicine. He also serves on the boards of a regional AHEC and a long term care facility. He continues to participate in education, admissions, and humanities activities at Penn State, and enjoys chocolate as much as ever.
