The American Academy of Family Physicians recognizes that patients and communities benefit when there is diverse representation in medicine. The AAFP strongly supports the right of LGBTQ+ physicians to practice with the freedom to openly self-identify without risk of discrimination, harassment, or loss of employment or privileges. Further, the decision to self-identify should never be taken away from the physicians themselves. The AAFP opposes all policies that would discriminate against a family physician because of their sexual orientation or gender identity and supports measures to create inclusive workplace environments.
