The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) supports the use of high-quality face masks to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2. The AAFP encourages mask use to protect individuals and communities from COVID-19, as evidence demonstrates that masks prevent the transmission of respiratory diseases like COVID-19. While high-quality KN95/KF94 masks and N95 respirators are more effective at reducing spread of SARS-CoV-2, cloth and surgical masks still provide more protection than not wearing a mask.
