Fighting for Family Medicine
Fighting For Family Medicine

The AAFP is among the charter members of Consumers First(, a new coalition aimed at improving the fractured U.S. health care system by addressing prices and resource inequities. Family physicians will be among the allies at the table as the group convenes to set its ambitious policy agenda.

The Academy applauds the recently introduced Primary Care Patient Protection Act of 2019( as important legislation that would advance timely, affordable care for Americans by allowing patients to secure visits with their primary care physicians, independent of cost-sharing requirements

In a May 15 statement, the Academy and five peer physician organizations strongly objected( to aggressive political interference in state legislatures across the United States “that inappropriately interfere with the patient-physician relationship, unnecessarily regulate the evidence-based practice of medicine and, in some cases, even criminalize physicians who deliver safe, legal and necessary medical care.”
