Speak Out campaigns are action alerts sent, primarily via email, to AAFP members on various advocacy issues affecting family medicine throughout the year. The campaigns leverage AAFP's Speak Out tool, which helps members directly contact their state officials, members of Congress, or the administration about the issues that matter most to primary care. Speak Out campaigns include information about the issue and instructions on how Advocacy Ambassadors can help, such as calling legislators or sending them pre-drafted letters.
Find active campaigns on the AAFP's website or through the Advocacy Ambassador resource hub.
AAFP Connect is an online community platform that provides a space for family physicians to connect, share resources, discuss clinical topics and collaborate on professional matters. AAFP members can choose to join different “communities” including the Advocacy Ambassador community.
Visit AAFP Connect directly or through the Advocacy Ambassador resource hub. AAFP members must be signed into their account to access the platform. Once on the platform, click on the round people icon next to the “create” button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
Advocacy Ambassador meetings are held quarterly in conjunction with state chapter executives. Meeting notices are posted in the AAFP Advocacy Ambassadors community on AAFP Connect.
Once Advocacy Ambassadors have completed their tasks for their Ambassadorship levels, they can contact Rebecca King at rking@aafp.org to verify their mailing address. Once completed, AAFP Member Advocacy staff will verify that the tasks have been completed and mail you your completion gift.
An AAFP Video Ask is a short video led by the AAFP Communications team, in which a featured AAFP member is asked a few questions about why they advocate for family medicine and why it’s important to be engaged with advocacy. To create your Video Ask for the Orange Ambassadorship, reach out to Rebecca King at rking@aafp.org.
