    Program Description

The Family Medicine Residency Program at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Cavazos, Texas, is the best program in the Army to gain competence in the full scope of Army Family Medicine. We ensure our graduates are able to tackle any problem that they may face in the Army, at home or abroad, whether related to trauma and emergency medicine, obstetrical care in all settings, newborn and pediatric care in the inpatient and outpatient setting, complex adult inpatient care, procedural proficiency in the outpatient and inpatient setting, musculoskeletal injury and treatment, chronic disease management, and preventive health services for Soldier readiness and patient wellbeing. Unique aspects of our program include a world-class simulation center; faculty fellowship trained in Obstetrics, Geriatrics, Sports Medicine, and Faculty Development; an obstetrics fellowship; close partnerships with Baylor Scott & White hospitals and the VA hospital in Temple, TX, in order to further enhance resident clinical experiences and education; close partnerships with Fort Hood's III Corps and the Army Medical Department's Center and School to provide realistic combat casualty and trauma care training and simulation for our residents; and a scholarly activity program that consistently has presentations at the national and international level along with publications in peer-reviewed journals such as American Family Physician. Our motto is "Patients First, Learning Always," and we strive to live that motto out every day as residents and faculty work together to better our patients and better ourselves. Finally, we have an ever-evolving Wellness Curriculum that seeks to improve physician resiliency both in residency and beyond, so that our graduates can continue providing -- and finding fulfillment in-- exceptional healthcare every time and everywhere. Please consider us if you are an HPSP or Uniformed Services University medical student who desire a career in Army Family Medicine.
